Hedgehogs have a unique defense mechanism known as "self-anointing." When they come across a new scent, they will lick and froth at the mouth, and then spread the saliva on their spines. Scientists are still unsure why they do this, but it may be a way for hedgehogs to disguise their own scent from predators.
